The Leg Warmer is made from either poly cotton material (cool for summer), or polar fleece (warm for winter). It has an easy zip opening Foot Pocket to protect the feet and calves from chilly draughts.
To Use
The back of the pocket can be tucked under the patient’s thighs when they are sitting down. The top part of the Leg Warmer can be placed on the patient’s lap. The long straps then cross over behind their back, unbuckled. This will prevent the top of the Leg Warmer from slipping off their lap. Alternatively fasten the belt around their waist by using the belt sewn across the top section.
The buckle can be positioned next to the patient’s hips. This makes sure it is within reach for them to open the buckle. This will save the Leg Warmer from falling on the floor or getting tangled in the wheels of wheelchairs.
It is also possible to use the Leg Warmer as a Lap Belt restraint. To use this product as a resrtaint, secure the webbing around the chair frame at the pelvic area. An advantage of securing around the chair frame is to remind patients not to stand up when their feet are in the pocket. If used as a restraint it should be fully documented on the care plan. Remember, the Leg Warmer is not designed to prevent patients sliding down chairs. However, when the patient’s feet touch the bottom of the Leg Warmer, they may think that they cannot slide down any more, and then they may feel more secure and stop sliding.
